Book Review: The New Influencers, A Marketer’s Guide to the New Social Media by Paul Gillin
December 7, 2009 by Brian Smith · 1 Comment
Paul’s premise is that, for marketers, social media is becoming an undeniable force to be reckoned with. Most of the book’s focus is on blogs and podcasts and how the authors behind these blogs and podcasts have influenced both mainstream and niche markets.
The New Influencers starts with a history of social media leading up to present day, which allows the reader to understand social media etiquette.
Separate chapters are dedicated to both corporate and small business use of social media, and cite actual examples that dig deep into the cause/effect of their actions.
What I found most helpful were the actual profiles of bloggers and podcasters, their trials and tribulations, and the consequences that it has imposed on their markets.
Each week I meet face-to-face with Realtors ® and most are beginning social media or are in the intermediate stages. If that describes you, I strongly suggest this book because it also explains social media from a philosophical perspective, which helps you to see the bigger picture and create a vision for how this media can help you attain your short and long term sales objectives.
If you are in my Inner Circle of Realtors ®, then I’ve already recommended this book to you and you’ve most likely read it. If you have any comments, would you mind posting them below?
